Jace and Seth Backstory

Seth wakes up in the morning, groaning as he remembers that today is the graduation day for the transfer students from the mainland. He quickly gets dressed and goes to the gym where there's been twelve rows of chairs set up, as well as a stage with a podium. As he takes a seat, he feels some nostalgia for some reason.

He goes into the car, smiling. "Oh, just thinking about something. Anyway, thank you for doing this, I really appreciate it." he says to Jace, smiling brightly as he motions for Jace to start the car.

"Dont mention it" replies Jace as he slips the keys in and turns, the car coming back to life again as he begins to drive towards their new home.
"I'm sure you'll prefer living with me, now that I've finished school full time though I've enrolled in the Britanian Army so we can only spend time together mornings, nights and weekends. Is that fine with you?"

He almost laughs with surprise. "You joined the military? And at such a young age. You know, compared to how you are now, the Jace I remember from before Japan was invaded was a quiet, kind but charismatic young boy, similar to me. Now you've turned bitter, but I suppose I can't blame you, I've had it easy."

"Ha, easy? In comparison to me your life was hell. I had a healthy father for a good 6 years, as well as the manor before we moved to Japan. It must of been hard for you to live with your mother all alone this time, but don't worry. I'm here for you now" replied Jace as he placed a hand on Seth's shoulder. "I think you will like my place, ever since Dad went to hospital I've had the thing to myself" Jace pointed up towards the top floors in a tall apartment building, far more modern and clean than the place they had just come from. "What do you think? We arent on the top floor but we're pretty close" said Jace, the smile once again returning to his face.

He laughs again, and smiles at Jace being so happy. "It wasn't that bad, I'm sure some people have it worse, particularly the Elevens. Anyway, I love it so far! It's awesome!" he says, clearly excited at living with him.

"haha, I'm happy you like it" replied jace as he parked the car in front and pulled the keys out, slipping them into his coat pocket, "you ready to see your new home?"

He stops for a bit, thinking. 'Well, this is how my life is going to play out, living with Jace, it's an adventure.' he thinks for a bit before walking into the apartment, his eyes widening at the spacous room he just walked into. "Wow, I'm really impressed!" he remarks, smiling.

"Haha, I didn't pay for it though. Dad did before he.." Jace cut himself off, not wanting anything to spoil their reunion "Well, this is the kitchen, and this is the living room...." Jace continued to show him around the apartment, until they finally got to Seth's Bedroom. "And this, is where you will be staying." Jace pushed opened the door to reveal the room. "You can do what you like with it now, it's all yours" said Jace with a wide smile, finally happy.

He enters the room, his eyes wide, and he turns around to see Jace finally smiling. "I'm glad this made you happy, big brother! It makes me so happy to have another chance at being your idealistic brother" he says before jumping onto the bed, grinning.

"it's good to be brothers" replied Jace as he closed the door to let Seth get acquainted with his new room. Jace walked over to the balcony and looked over the bustling city he called home and took as deep breath of fresh air. Everything seemed right with the world.

Seth lies on the bed, completely relaxed, smiling to himself. "Ah, I love my new room. It's so cool." He says to himself, closing his eyes. Oh, that's right, I needed to do an assignment... But I guess it can wait. he thinks to himself, while noticing that there's a chess set on the desk, not set up yet.

Jace sat down on the balcony and began to think as he looked out to the city. The next day would be his first day in the army, and he wondered what it would be like. He knew that he wanted to honour his family name, fight for his country and most of all, honour his dad. Jace knew that one day, he would definately become a force to be reckoned with. His dream was to become the knight of 1, to take control over Area 11. This place was dirty, impure. A mere shadow of his glorious homeland and soon it will be remade. It was a dark dream, but in Jace's mind it was a noble one.
"Clovis, that pathetic fool..." Jace muttered to himself under his breath as he thought about that imbecile. Hosting lavish parties and devoting the minimal amount of his time to the area he had been entrusted with, content to allow the elevens to ride on the backs of the noble Britannians. How could the holy family have such a fool for a son. The entirety of Area 11 was fooled by that paper thin mask but not Jace, he knew what a shallow person he was and soon he would prove it, and hopefully one day take his place. This place needed a true leader, one who truly had the hopes of Britannia in his mind. He would make his father proud yet.

He then walks out of the room with a chess set, and goes to where Jace is on the balcony. "Hey Jace, do you remember this game? The pieces are a bit different than what they usually were, but I know which is which." he says, holding the white king piece in his hand, and the chess set in the other.

"Haha, you still remember when i taught you to play?" replied Jace smiling again as he pulled a table over and pointed at a chair opposite.

He laughs at the memory of Jace tutoring him about chess, and all the strategies that he couldn't get. "How could I forget? I'm still not that good of a strategist, though, purely tactical." He says to him at he holds both the kings in each hand. "Which piece, black or white?" he remarks as he feels the spiked top of the pieces.

"I'll take black. I prefer waiting for my opponent to move and striking at the openings." replied Jace as he took the king out of his hand and placed it on the board, "Let's see what you've learnt since we last played"

He smiles at the choice. "Always the calm calculator, I could never match you in that. Let me tell you a story" he says as he starts the game, advancing his pawns in the Ruy Lopez formation.

"good luck" said Jace calmly as his brain set into full concentration, "pawn to d5"

He smirks, and laughs. "Queen's Gambit? You never change. Anyway, the story begins like this... Two kings had each an army of equal size, but each with an opposing ideal, the first an idealist, the second a pragmatist. Then, they waged war against each other, the Black King slowly prevailing... Queen to f4." he says, mostly to himself.

"...and yet even with the win, he felt empty." replied Jace, "bishop takes pawn"

He nods slowly. "Yes, but he continued nevertheless, because his dream had to prevail, even if he sacrificed his own life to do so. The White King had the same reason, so it was simply a battle of morals, on an enormous scale... Bishop to G3." He says, twiddling the taken Black Bishop in his hand.

"White was forced to react in kind. Without sacrifice, there is no gain..." replied Jace as he slid the queen across the board, knocking it into the bishop. Jace picked it up and placed it on the side of the board. "Eventually, the white king had realised they were more alike than he thought..."

He sighs, and deliberately moves his queen to the opponent's. "And so, the game is over, for the queen, at least." he mutters to himself.

"Why go for the queen when you can have the game?" replied Jace with a smile on his face as he picked up the bishop and placed it with a loud thunk, "check, and in 2 moves, the game"
Jace leaned back in his chair and gave Seth a smug smile, "You remember how the story ended?"

He smiles, and blocks the bishop with his pawn. "I think that the White King realized he couldn't win, and so, he opted for a stalemate. At least, that's what I would do in this situation... You know you always beat me, you don't have to act so smug..." he says to him, looking away.
